GLOBAL RUNNING DAY

Each year on the first Wednesday in June, people across the U.S. participate in Global Running Day. This fit National Day is designated as a way for runners to reaffirm their passion for running and for beginners to make a life-changing commitment to running.

For some, running is a daily routine. The moment the runner awakes, their mission is to complete a set distance. They may have a partner, or they go it alone. Others fit in a run when time allows or at the end of their workday. The marathoner will train on a schedule placing one foot in front of the other.

6 Running Tips for Beginners

  1. Set a plan in place to begin training, including the time of day you will begin running that best fits into your schedule.
  2. Map out a safe route you will take while running, especially if you are running alone.
  3. Make sure you have the proper shoes for running. Most shoe stores will be able to assist you, but you can also talk to your primary care provider or do your own research online.
  4. Remember to stretch properly before you begin running. Proper muscle stretches will prevent injury.
  5. Start your running routine slowly and keep a balanced pace. Remember to stop and walk when you think you are over exerting yourself. Walking will give your body the opportunity to adjust properly.
  6. Monitor your heart while you run.

Running is an excellent way to stay in shape. It's a great way to maintain a healthy weight and keep your bones and muscle strong. In addition, many people who run use the quiet time to think and problem-solve. In other words, running can help you maintain a healthy mindset resulting in good mental health. Plus, running outside gives you a chance to see the beauty of the world around as you explore running paths in your community.
