NATIONAL KETO DAY

National Keto Day lands on January 5th with an approach to transforming our health. This health awareness day arrives just in time as we begin our New Year's resolution to eat healthier and take care of our bodies.

#NationalKetoDay

A keto diet (ketogenic diet) is a high-fat, moderate-protein, and very-low-carbohydrate eating plan that forces your body to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose. With a keto diet, you restrict carbohydrate intake to 20 to 50 grams, which is less than the amount in a single medium bagel. Your daily calories consist of roughly 70-80 percent fat, 10-20 percent protein, and 5-10 percent carbohydrates. It takes 2 to 4 days to trigger your metabolic state in order for your body to begin to burn fat.

Keto Diet

Primarily, a keto diet consists of healthy fats, like eggs, avocado, olive oil, and sustainably-raised meat. Nuts, seeds, dairy, and low-carbohydrate vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, and green peppers are also easy to incorporate. Coconut oil, grass-fed butter, and ghee add fat and flavor to a keto diet. Occasionally, small servings of berries are added to the menu.

Keto Diet: Eliminate these Foods

  • Sweets, sugar, sodas, and baked goods.

  • Grains, whole grains, and starches.

  • Fruits and starchy vegetables.

  • Hydrogenated oils and vegetable oil.

  • Diet foods, including low sugar, sugar-free, low-fat foods.

Keto Diet Benefits

Two of the most significant perks seen with the keto diet are weight loss and healthy blood sugar support. In fact, studies have shown improved glycemic control for those with Type 2 Diabetes while adhering to a ketogenic diet. Other health benefits of a keto diet may include healthy cholesterol and blood pressure support. It may also be beneficial for those with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
